For egress one can always incorporate a door for emergency exit, elsewhere. This openable 'partition' need not be for emergency function. Of all the other examples this is the best.

There are many restrictions on speech surrounding the party, symbols and people involved in their historical crimes. The fear is that those things can repeat. But there's been a code of silence about a group who arrived presenting as victims though many are vocal about their own supremacist ideas. But it would be considered hate speech by some to criticize or restrict that group. Strange double standard.

To see the works of my 20th century modernist heroes in such intimate spaces was always a thrill. Leslie Martin's extension offered more of the same feeling of the house, which I hope hasn't gone with these works. The new gallery spaces look great, but the view walking down Castle Street is now pretty dire with all that unbroken brick. Can't win 'em all.

All she had said was “The best thing about being LGBT is that you can do whatever you want in the workplace and then when someone pulls you up on it, you simply pull the 'you have a problem with LGBT' card”

It's not like she’d said “The best thing about being LGBT is that you can do whatever you want in the workplace and then when someone pulls you up on it, you simply pull the 'you have a problem with LGBT' card” or anything!

And besides, he’d missed the point entirely! Her REAL point was that all people are equal, including LBGT people. Silly Tom for not reading between the lines. LBGT people really should stop inventing problems. No one cares if they’re LBGT, as long as they’re good at their job. They shouldn’t assume they’re colleagues are homophobic and hide their sexuality. That’s reverse homophobic!

And herein lies the crux, Sally. I would like to know why those LBGT people aren’t out at work. It is a failure of the survey that this isn’t more clear. However, unlike you, I won't assume they’re all making mountains out of molehills. Instead, I’d like to listen to them. The world has come a long way in not much time, but that doesn’t mean that homophobia has completely gone and it’s time to stop talking about it. If you are truly indifferent to the sexuality of your colleagues (assuming you actually work in the construction industry and aren’t just some Russian Troll) then well done you. Don’t assume everyone else is so enlightened.

That's perhaps why clients' wishes hold sway. Granted there are a lot of all-in-one rectangular spaces in the US, but there are many practices doing other superb work. I've been a long-time fan of Marmol Radziner, who not only design but also build, and to a superb standard. Then there's Noah Walker. His Oak Pass House is an absolute stunner in every way. These houses ooze great design and great detailing.

All around us. Googling "LGBT workplace discrimination" will help you become familiar with it. Or you can click on the three links I posted above that shows specific statistics. For many who cannot fathom the commonplace nature of such discrimination, denial and ignorance are comfortable manners of engaging, because they help us feel good about the current state of the world and appeal to our laziness and inertia, but they're no way forward on any subject, especially one as important as this.

That is, the camera, or processor, or screen, for example, could be swapped out with a new one when that particular technology improved or that part broke without ending the life cycle of the rest of the phone.

This seemed like a promising avenue of design innovation regarding small electronics. Unfortunately it never seemed to go anywhere, I'm guessing because we are all just so thrilled at the idea of acquiring totally NEW products, without any thought to where they come from or where they end up.

The waste rampant in the world is still primarily a problem of our insatiable demand for novelty and our unwillingness to pay the true price of the entire life cycle of any product. Disposability is a feature of most products from the drawing board, unless specifically addressed in the design process, as these guys illuminate.

We could end waste overnight if we were willing to change our consuming habits. We would have to demand from producers, and become willing to pay for clothing, furniture and household items that lasted decades instead of months, and refuse to buy disposable cheap crap.

Good luck with the adoption of those practices, I'm afraid. This project at least aims to get people to think about some of this stuff.

Comment on Lufthansa attacked for "bland and pointless" redesign of its classic logo by studio https://www.dezeen.com/2018/02/05/lufthansa-airline-updates-yellow-100-year-old-logo-livery-redesign/#comment-1336624 Thu, 08 Feb 2018 21:34:00 +0000 https://admin.dezeen.com/?p=1179936#comment-1336624 In reply to Paul Osborne.

I think that American Airlines tail design (only) works. Generally the tail design has nothing to do with the total rebranding.

Comment on Elon Musk sends his Tesla Roadster to space aboard "world's most powerful" rocket by Małgorzata https://www.dezeen.com/2018/02/06/falcon-heavy-launch-time-elon-musk/#comment-1336622 Thu, 08 Feb 2018 21:28:00 +0000 https://admin.dezeen.com/?p=1180621#comment-1336622 I'm not Musk or a rocket scientist, but if I were I would invent something.

1. I wouldn't send the rocket just in the Mars direction, but I would want the rocket to orbit the planet once and then return to the Earth. So I could also test the landing procedure of the rocket after such a long time in space.
2. If Musk was so afraid of the launch it means that he is not 100% sure of the rocket.
3. See 1.
4. The payload is the least important factor. It could be just sand.
